The Job
Main purpose of job
Our client designs and develops key components of flat panel digital television product range, and our software is deployed in TV products worldwide. They have many years of experience with DVB broadcast systems, interactive TV and IPTV technologies.
They have been at the forefront of the digital TV revolution and have been a key part of this revolution. Now they are looking to strengthen their interactive TV development team to meet the challenges ahead.
They are looking for developers with exceptional C++ skills and ideally previous experience in digital TV. Knowledge of HbbTV and/or MHEG standards would be very beneficial, but would consider applicants with experience in similar related technologies.! Successful candidates would become part of the Interactive TV! Team and would perform tasks including the following:
1. Add new features to our HbbTV / MHEG engines as the standards evolve.
2. Port these interactive TV engines to a range of platforms and architectures.
3. Support the digital TV ecosystem through formal certification, internal and external QA testing.
4. Resolve defects in our implementation.
5. Provide technical support for our involvement with official TV standards bodies (DVB, MHEG, HbbTV and others).
Key functions
1. Development and enhancement of the interactive TV technologies for our clients TV platform.
2. Technical authority for HbbTV and/or MHEG.
3. Analysis and design of modules within a digital television system, which is primarily at the middleware level. This software shall be designed using a combination of MS Word documents and UML2 (with a variety of tools). Good written English skills are essential.
4. Implement ! these designs in various embedded systems to a high standard. The majority of this software shall be implemented in C++, but a strong knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS will be required for HbbTV work.
5. Ensure that work packages meet requirements, pass quality standards and are integrated with other parts of the system.
Skills and experience
Essential:
1. Skills equivalent to a degree in Electronics, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline. An equivalent period of industrial experience may be substituted.
2. Experience of real-time and/or embedded software development on medium-to-large scale projects.
3. Excellent skills in C++ for embedded multi-tasking systems.
4. Individuals suitable for the position must be enthusiastic and be prepared to develop their skill set across a diverse software environment.
5. Existing experience and skills with software design.
6. Dig! ital Television development experience.
Desirable:
! 1. Good knowledge of JavaScript, HTML-5, CSS.
2. Knowledge of DVB digital television standards.
3. Linux (or other Unix-like) programming experience.
4. Design with UML.
5. IPTV and or related IP technology.
6. Modern software design processes and methodologies.
7. Version control systems, software build environments.
8. Source code quality checking and analysis tools.
