Position:

Purpose of role:


  • Manage day to day business operations across all projects to ensure the business unit runs smoothly.
  • Provide comprehensive programme management of a range of engineering projects, activities and work streams.
  • Work with the General Manager and Regional Sales Manager to grow the business and maximise all opportunities for work in the business unit.

Main responsibilities:


  • Lead and manage engineering activities for our customers in the business unit/region to ensure all contracts run smoothly, efficiently, and profitably.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, commercial and project support to the region to enable budgeted results to be achieved.
  • Effective planning, control and monitoring, both internally and directly with customers, of projects secured from the quotation stage, through negotiation to contract completion and final accounts.
  • Programme management of business projects, activities and work streams in order to meet the business objectives or benefits
  • Produce quotes and undertake estimating for engineering projects using the Company’s standard commercial approach.
  • Effective liaison throughout the sales and order securing process and during contract works with other Beck & Pollitzer colleagues on a national and international level
  • Report on contract performance regularly and to Beck & Pollitzer standard requirements, ensuring all potential opportunities, variations and risks are identified and reported to the General Manager as soon as possible.
  • Support General Managers with the business planning and budgeting process for the region/business unit.
  • Ensure the region complies with Safety, Quality and other Company systems and procedures
  • Carry out regular site Audits on active projects in region
  • Ensure Weekly site Audits are completed as required on active site by PM
  • Act as line manager for allocated project engineers/managers and the site-based operations team. This includes dealing with recruitment, absence, performance management and general employee relations issues such as disciplinaries, grievances etc.
  • Take lead responsibility for an area of business expertise and create a culture of learning, action, innovation, and autonomy by role modelling Beck and Pollitzer’s core values
  • Work closely with HR and Operations Support functions to ensure the recruitment, induction, development and retention of Beck and Pollitzer colleagues
  • Effectively support a centralised procurement and resource allocation approach across the organisation


Requirements:

Experience, knowledge and qualifications required:


  • Experience of managing project teams and controlling, organising, and motivating internal labour resources and sub-contractors.
  • Project Management qualification
  • Educated to an advanced technical level in a relevant engineering discipline, (e.g. time-served Engineer).
  • Experience of using Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and industry recognised project management tools for tracking, analysis, business documents, presentations etc.
  • Experience of applying health and safety legislation including risk management processes
  • Experience of ensuring good cost and budgetary controls, accounting controls and procedures through to final accounts
  • Experience of negotiating and agreeing contract costs and variations with customers.
  • Strong knowledge of Mechanical or Electrical contracting and working knowledge of other engineering disciplines
  • Understanding of engineering principles and engineering drawings
  • Understanding of lean methodology/processes.
