Contract: 12 months fixed term

Location: Bescot
(Walsall) or Oldbury (Sandwell)

Kier Strategic Highways is looking to recruit Highways
Maintenance Operatives to join the Area 9 team on an 12 month fixed term
contract

Job Purpose:
Deliver Routine, Severe Weather and Reactive, Maintenance
Services as directed by the Supervisor and also Renewal Schemes within our
Operational Capabilities, carrying out a variety of manual & non-manual
highway maintenance duties as instructed on a day to day basis to ensure the
efficient running of the network.

Key Responsibilities:
Actively promote Health and Safety in the workplace, setting
a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of, and compliance
with, general Health and Safety responsibilities as set out in the Health and
Safety Management System.
Carry out all maintenance service duties required to keep
the network safe and resilient, in accordance with the MRP/AMOR and as
instructed by the Supervisor / Team Leader. These duties include:
Traffic Management installation and removal
Road Restraint system replacement
Sweeping & Cleaning
Litter Picking
Grass cutting and Strimming
Sign Cleaning
Drainage Clearance
Footpath Sidling out
Incident Attendance
Gulley Emptying
Sign Erection
Debris Collection
Dead Animal Removal
Minor Civil Repairs to all highways assets.
Where appropriate, perform the TMF/LTMO role with regard to
installation of TTM.
Where appropriate, perform the Lead Installer role with
regard to Inspection, Maintenance, Repair and Renewal of Road Restraint
Systems.
Under direction of the Lead Installer, carry out Inspection,
Maintenance, Repair and Renewal of Road Restraint Systems.
Provide the safe installation of TTM layouts in accordance
with the appropriate drawings and instructions and carry out routine
maintenance activities within established TTM making best use road space.
Respond to incidents and emergency situations as directed by
the Supervisor/NCC
Take part in Severe Weather effort and Incident Management
by being on appropriate Standby Rotas.
Ensure Safe Working Procedures and Shift Briefings are
attended and understood.
Ensure that the appropriate Training Certificates/Cards/Tickets
are up to date in the activity you have been instructed to carry out.
Ensure accurate daily, weekly and monthly records and
reports are completed on time in order to meet commercial/payroll, safety,
defect/incident management and environmental requirements.
Identify improvements to the network by carrying out the
Watchman Process.
Take responsibility for welfare and depot cleanliness and
general housekeeping.
Ensure all relevant driver/vehicle records are maintained.
Ensure all relevant commercial and operational records are
maintained
Undertake appropriate development in line with Personal
Development Review
Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably
required.

Key Skills and

Qualifications:
12A,B,C,D Lantra Certificated
TMF/LTMO Certificated where appropriate
CSCS accreditation for level of post
Full Driving licence. LGV License preferred
Able to work on own initiative to resolve problems
effectively.
Good communication skills (written and verbal).
Adaptable and flexible to cope with the variety of
responsibilities involved and to suit peaks and troughs in work load.
Highway Maintenance experience.
Winter Maintenance NVQ and experience
Incident Management Experience
