The Role
The purpose of CEWL’s [Centre for English and World Languages] EAP [English for Academic Purposes] tutor roles is to provide th! e key teaching and pastoral support required for the range of academic pathway programmes and in-sessional courses which the Centre delivers. In particular, this will include the International Foundation Programme, Graduate Diplomas, Pre-sessional Programmes, and In-sessional courses. As a result, the post-holders will work closely with the Centre’s Grade 8 positions, including the International Pathways Manager as well as the Director of CEWL and the Assistant Director. In addition, to the key focus on EAP, the post holder(s) will also be required to teach General English, and contribute in other academic and administrative ways, across the Centre, including activity associated with CEWL’s short courses.
Each post-holder will be encouraged to develop a key additional focus to their position which will enable an area of classroom-focused EAP specialism. It is hoped that this will in turn contribute to the wider repertoire and skill-set of the CEWL EAP team.
The Person
With a first degree and in-service t! raining/practice of EAP in a relevant context, the successful candidate will have a high level of English language proficiency.
Recent experience in the field of teaching EAP in association with Undergraduate and Postgraduate study is essential as is experience of student academic and pastoral support in the University context.
Good administation and excellent IT skills are also essential to this position.
The Department
The Centre for English and World Languages (CEWL) is a newly restructured department at the University of Kent which specialises in the delivery of modules, programmes and short courses in English and a wide range of other major world languages.
Modes of study currently provide credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing language learning opportunities for both general and more applied academic purposes.
CEWL’s objectives play a key role in the University’s Internationalisation Strategy.
The Centr! e aims to address the linguistic, academic and cultural needs of both home and international students. In future, provision will also be extended in order to cater for the requirements of the wider Kent community.
