If you're a Linux Application Engineer with Operations and Java Support ! experience, looking to work for one of the world's most prestigious media dot-com titles, this could be the perfect role for you!

Due to their digital expansion, this exciting digital media company's revenues are up by 45% from last year! The website has over 300,000 paying online subscribers (both mobile and desktop). 25% of all the website traffic is coming from mobile devices.

As a Linux Application Engineer you will work within a team of four Support Analysts, including the Operations Support Manager (who you'll report in to), you will also work closely with the Dev Ops team. This is a fast-paced environment so we're looking for somebody who is proactive and can deal with time critical outages in a calm and concise manner.

It is a 35 hour working week, but the ability to work in a 24/7 environment is essential; this role offers a generous bonus and on-call allowance to compensate this! The London team share the 24/7 support with a similar size! d team in the Philippines, the day-to-day shift patterns in Lo! ndon are 8am-4pm, 10am-6pm, or 3pm-11pm (the 3pm-11pm shift can be worked from home).

The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering effective support for this companies global products and services. A strong emphasis on continuous service improvement is essential. The post holder is expected to improve current processes and procedures, as well as setting up new ones to extend the team's capability and ability to take on and support new products and services. The overriding objective is to improve the responsiveness and increase the number of incidents resolved at first line.

This hugely successful, international media brand has just under 5 million registered users to its main website and boasts an average daily readership of over 2 million - working in a pure Agile (Scrum & Waterfall) environment, you would be working in a culture of innovation which has helped develop some ground breaking products including a multi award winning iOS-optimis! ed HTML5 web app which has seen more than 2.5 million users since its launch a year ago.

Responsibilities:
+ Circa 70% Applications support (Java, Apache), 30% Linux operating systems support
+ Able to analyse, diagnose and resolve faults (on a 24x7 basis as required) in specific area of technical knowledge
+ Appropriately assign faults to other groups and within the team, ensuring clear handover and documentation
+ Deal with time critical outages in a calm and concise manner, ensuring all stakeholders are kept fully informed of progress on break/fix and/or change activity
+ Implement changes. Interpreting change requests and implementing using defined change control processes. Understanding the impact of changes outside immediate technical area and being prepared to challenge requests that might impact production services
+ Execute allocated project tasks, typically user account and software changes
+ Carry out application releas! es in test and production environments to complex release plans
+ P! roactive monitoring and maintenance for fault prevention as required

Essential experience:
+ Linux (Redhat) experience
+ Prior experience in application/software support role - must be demonstrated at both an application and server level
+ Web based background consisting of: Apache, Tomcat, Content Management Systems, Java
+ Basic database skills

Preferred experience:
+ Any knowledge of Shell or Perl programming would be beneficial
+ Knowledge of Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas Cluster Server
+ Experience with Solaris 10 and containers

This is a technical role with a customer focus, emphasis on service improvement and a requirement to develop closure working relationships with teams based overseas.
