Are you interested in a full-time role working on Stewart Island - Rakiura the land of glowing skies' Our Big Glory Bay Mussel Farm is located in one of New Zealands national parks with the natural pristine beauty of the sea, bush and wildlife - one of the worlds most remote aquaculture farms - and on a good day its one of the most beautiful places you can be.

About the role

An opportunity for a Skipper for the Mussel Farm vessel the Erin a < 24m vessel has become available. The Erin has a good record of training new staff to fit into our business - the new skipper on this vessel will carry on this good work.

The main work of the role includes contributing to the daily mussel harvest, seeding of spat, reseeding & block work, weekly maintenance/cleaning of equipment. Assisting with tasks on the Salmon Farm may include salmon nets, block work.

This is a full-time permanent position, working 5 days on / 2 days off Sunday to Thursday on Stewart Island. There may also be an option of working 8 days on / 6 days off. Subsidised accommodation on Stewart Island is available.

What you need to be successful in this role:

Your good communication and ability to work well in a team are key skills. Youll be innovative, good at building relationships, and display the company values through all your actions and decision making.

  • You will need to have a current SRL / ILM / CLM ticket certificate
  • Current maritime medical
  • Current workplace First Aid Certificate
  • A practical understanding of responsibilities of MOSS regulations
  • A good level of experience in all areas of work the Erin undertakes
