Regional Towers Operations Manager (Central)

About the role
How do you describe this role to your friends? On Monday you are engaging with the Royal New Zealand Air Force and on Tuesday, your office looks out across the iconic wind farms in the Palmerston North Air Traffic Control Tower. If leading multiple teams across different locations interests you, then this is an exciting opportunity for an operations manager to join our Air Traffic Services team. This is a new role which requires extensive experience in a safety critical organisation (preferably aviation related), fantastic people leadership skills and strong operational knowledge. Reporting to the Head of Aerodrome Services, this role is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient delivery of Air Traffic Services in the Central region at the Napier, Palmerston North, Ohakea and New Plymouth Towers to ensure the full engagement and development of the unit controllers and creating strong working relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders.

The base salary range sits between $148,040 – $175,797 and is inclusive of Kiwisaver/Superannuation contributions and will be based off previous experience (current at time of publication). This is a permanent, full-time role, 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8.30 – 5pm.
About you
Ideally you will have Aviation experience, extensive knowledge of Airport operations and Air Navigation Services and associated legislative framework. You will be an experienced people leader, skilled at motivating and empowering others to work effectively to achieve business unit, group, and organisational goals.
As an outstanding and natural communicator, you will have the maturity and confidence to interact with people from all walks of life and your stakeholder relationship skills will be second to none. This role at times can be complex, so we need someone with a collaborative and inclusive work style who can navigate our operational and governance landscapes.
In addition, you will have:
- Extensive leadership experience with an ability to lead multi shift workers in a dynamic environment
- Proven experience managing operational teams. Ideally in a critical service role or operational shift workers role
- Previous ATC experience, ideally within NZ or other equivalent overseas location would be advantageous
This is a great opportunity to be influential in a new role and make it your own. This is a full-time position with flexibility on location of work within the beautiful Central North Island regions of New Zealand. Your home base can be Napier, Palmerston North, or New Plymouth. Travel will be required between all locations.
