GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Provides customer service support at the public service desk at the Bragtown Library. Although the position is based at Bragtown Library, the selected candidate could be asked to work at other library locations.


Work is performed under the supervision of the Bragtown Library Manager.


Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services for customers via phone, online chat, email and in person; assist customers with using online catalog, computers and electronic resources; assist with shelving, shifting, shelf-reading, generating reports, and other circulation services; serve as manager-on-duty and supervise volunteers, as needed.
  • Create, plan, host, and organize one program per week for the library.
  • Follow established cash handling and revenue procedures
  • Create and maintain consistent, meaningful content on the Bragtown Branch Library’s social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook and Instagram.
  • This position may assist with the preparation, promotion, and execution of programs for all ages, including children, teens and adults; and participate in library-wide committees or projects.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of library resources and equipment, including an ability to train customers in the use of online catalog and online resources.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a team-based environment.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies coupled with a working knowledge of both library computer systems and electronic resources and databases
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service via phone, online chat, email and in-person
  • Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and customers.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills highly desired.


REQUIREMENTS:


Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
