The Director of Student Support Services coordinates and provides oversight in the planning and development of special education programs and services. The Director of Student Support Services coordinates information and referral service committees, related services included, but not limited to, speech and language services, special education transportation, occupational, physical therapy, assistive tech. Works collaboratively with administrative and instructional staff, and communicates effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools. Completes state and federal special education and civil rights reports and coordinates internal investigations.
In addition, the Director of Student Support Services will: Develop and monitor budgets for three districts Supervise and evaluate OT, PT, speech and language PreK-12 Participate in monthly SEPAC meetings Partner with principals on evaluations for special education teachers andspecial education paraprofessionals PreK-12 Act as a resource person for building level administrators on the staff evaluation process, as it pertains to special education and related services areas. Assist in the screening, recruitment, and appointment of special education personnel. Conduct a regular staff needs assessment and implementation of special education staff development programs for the professional, support, and administrative staff. Coordinate activities/documentation in an effort to maintain district compliance with State and Federal Standards.
Work with other administrative staff in the development of program improvements to better meet the individual educational needs of all students. Coordinate the development of district goals, philosophies, and policies related to special education. Coordinate and conduct program evaluations and needs assessments. Initiate state and/or federal grant proposals beneficial to the district.
Collaborate with the Out of District Coordinator to monitor and budget all out of district placed students Function as lead investigator for complaints initiated by staff, students, parents, and outside agencies Develop annual civil rights mandated trainings and provide professional development connected to civil rights trainings Conduct Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for School (TCIS) certification and refresher courses and track and monitor certification status of staff members Perform other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent.
