We are looking to add to our successful Building Services team by recruiting an

Assistant Mechanical Engineer

, based in our

Bristol

office with the majority of projects located throughout southern England and Wales.

The successful candidates will be given responsibility for delivery of parts of projects under the supervision of a s! enior engineer or building services project lead, and will be ! expected to contribute positively to our delivery as part of multi-discipline teams. Inherent in the role is the need to travel to clients premises and site locations, plus other Atkins office locations where the delivery strategy is based on team co-location. On occasion projects may require secondment on a longer term basis, which will be by agreement.

Job Details

Responsibilities

Identify and meet effectively the requirements and expectations of clients.

Creation and clarification of design briefs and outline designs with the other members of the Design Team

Design development from design briefs, including preparation of reports, designs, specifications and contract documents to the required level of detail.

Communication with clients, external professional organisations, contractors, suppliers, sub contractors and other designers.

Ensure effective inter-discipline working occurs with other disciplines such a! s Architecture, Building Surveying, Civil and Structural Engineering.

Comply with the Quality Assurance system, quality control and document management in line with current policy

Review designs produced by others and verify completeness to technical and Atkins standards

Provide technological input and supervise technical output by less experienced team members within the electrical building services discipline.

Promote and incorporate sustainable design wherever possible.

Assist in the production of fee estimates and bids.

Assist in the management of resources and project costs, to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Initiate or assist as appropriate in the operation of change control procedures and fee recovery activities.

Manage own workload and with the Team Leader manage the workload of more junior members of the team.

Contribute to discussions on emerging legisla! tion and engineering standards relating to electrical building services! .

Help to identify business opportunities

Where appropriate providing coaching, training, mentoring and CPD delivery.

Requirements

Degree in Building Services or a related Engineering based subject (or equivalent qualification)

Progressing towards or achieved Chartered Engineer Status.

Membership of a Professional Engineering Institution.

Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.

Similar experience working in a design consultancy, with experience of concept, scheme and detail design across a range of sectors.

Experience in design of Healthcare, Education and/or Higher Education, Transport and/or Nuclear sectors is preferable, or other relevant experience of selecting and designing systems in heavily serviced facilities.

Experienced gained within a Contractor led environment is additionally welcome.

Up to date knowledge of building services systems.

! A good level of computer literacy in Hevacomp, Cymap, IES, TAS or similar thermal modelling software is desirable as is use of NES and Microsoft Office suite of products.

Working knowledge of document production using AutoDesk software.

AutoCAD is used extensively and knowledge of REVIT or BIM tools is welcome.

A good understanding of quality assurance, safety and environmental sustainability

Able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way

A degree of financial awareness and the ability to develop this skill further is required

A good understanding of sustainability issues and low carbon technology is required, with formal qualifications as a Low Carbon Consultant or BREEAM Assessor being welcome.

Ability to motivate, influence and negotiate.
