The Consulting West Planning Team provide a wide range of planning services to public and private sector clients across the South West, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as overseas. Alongside its own projects the team regularly forms part of larger projects outside of the West region such as the Olympics, Thameslink and HS2.

In our local market we regularly support local authorities in the development of policy and the progression of spatial plans through policy research and analysis. On the development consenting side of the business we make a significant contribution in the pre-design and feasibility stages of projects and in the development of the case for projects. We often take the project management role leading multi-disciplinary teams in the successful submission and determination of planning applications. Role The Senior Planner role will include the following requirements: Advising a range of blue chip corporate and public sector clients on a wide range of planning projects. Preparing and presenting reports, planning appraisals and applications for major developments. Preparing the planning case for appeals as and when required Preparing bids and submissions for assignments and taking a central role in developing the planning, policy and economics businesses within Consulting West. Working with the wider Consulting and Infrastructure West teams and PPE staff in other Arup offices. Working on specific research projects into aspects of planning policy and strategy. Supervising and co-ordinating the work of others and co-ordinating work with other disciplines. Attending meetings and communicating with clients to establish their needs. Managing the project team to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget. Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team Support to Associate Directors and Associates in business development activities. Although Bristol based the position will require travel across the Consulting West area (Cardiff, Bristol & Belfast) on a project basis. Requirements

The role requires the following expertise and experience:
Degree qualified, plus a post graduate qualification in town planning or economics. Chartered RTPI status. Demonstrable knowledge of urban and planning policy development, plan making process and development management procedures although the focus will be on consenting. In depth knowledge of planning legislation and associated circulars, guidance and regulation essential. Additional specialist skills in the areas of development economics, urban regeneration or urban design/masterplanning would be desirable. Experience of managing multidisciplinary teams gained within a local authority, development agency or consultancy. Experience of the preparation of complex planning applications in the fields of energy, water, transport, residential and mixed use schemes. Able to demonstrate success in delivering high quality analytical and qualitative analysis research Able to understand the balance of priorities on differing projects Able to quickly develop successful client relationships Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines is essential Excellent planning and organisation skills Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) Able to demonstrate strong commercial and political awareness Proven network of town planning contacts in the public and private sector
