Job Purpose
The Press and Public Relations Officer-Social Affairs will play a key role in shaping the reputation and profile of the institution across all elements of the media, including print, broadcast, online and social media. An experienced media relations expert, they will have extensive media contacts particularly with political correspondents, commentators and national political editors. As well as the confidence, expertise and drive to create more contacts. They will also have the ability to provide expert advice to our senior academic figures. Actively identifying and promoting media news stories, features and opinion pieces into the media, they will also have experience of and contribute to the crisis communications work of the University. They have dotted line management responsibilities for the Press and Public Relations Assistant and the Media Monitoring Assistant role.
Person Specification
Existing extensive national media contacts, particularly political correspondents and editors
Experience of working with and developing forward media plans and using a political monitoring system
Demonstrable experience and understanding of how Westminster works
Experience and expertise in media story development, drafting and selling in to a high level of quality and success
Excellent storytelling skills, and ability to repurpose content to suit differing media channels
Experience of purposing and uploading content for digital media channels, including CMS and Twitter
Experience of and sensitivity to the constraints of working in a confidential environment
Experience of crisis communications
Experience of managing staff and dealing with difficult staff relations
Extensive media relations knowledge, including experience of working with PR agencies
Demonstrable experience of building excellent working relationships based on trust and respect
