A fantastic opportunity for a graduate Internet Systems Engineer to work in an enterprise-scale ISP environment (Cisco / Linux) and develop broad and deep technical networking skills.

RM Education is a leading provider of ICT solutions to schools and is Britain 's Top IT Employer 2012. Based at the Oxfordshire HQ and working within our Internet & Hosting Group, you'll provide support to over 4000 schools and educational establishments. You will be helping customers with their broadband connectivity, Internet security, email systems, webhosting and other RM cloud-based products and services. (20 data centres, 8000 network devices, 4000 servers, 800,000 email inboxes, 15TB of data backed up weekly etc).

Alongside technical support for customers, you will proactively identify and document first time fixes, implement challenging customer driven changes and jointly troubleshoot and share knowledge with our engineering team in RM India (occasional foreign travel may also be required). You will work with many varied technologies including Cisco, Windows and Linux, specialist backup, and web filtering solutions as well as bespoke RM products and services hosted in our fully virtualised cloud infrastructure.

Requirements :
A 2:1 preferably in a technical degree and a minimum of 260 UCAS points.

A practical and demonstrable technical knowledge in one or more of the following: Cisco routers, TCP/IP, and Web technologies (SharePoint, hosting, email).

Experience of using at least two of the following technologies; DNS, Internet connectivity (ISDN/ADSL, Leased Lines, etc), Linux, web caching, proxies, SNMP and POP3/SMTP.

Good problem solving abilities and attention to detail.

Responsibilities :
Resolve support requests from customers by phone, email and online

Troubleshooting network issues with network managers and 3 rd party telecoms companies to resolve issues

Perform proactive connectivity monitoring and work with schools to improve reliability and performance

Suggest technical and process enhancements to improve the first-time fix rate and share knowledge across the team

Deliver customer education through documentation, direct interaction and pre-planned training

Implement customer requested technical change including requirements gathering, deployment and final sign-off.

You will be working with:
WAN connectivity including high bandwidth broadband, ADSL/Leased line.

Gateway devices such as Cisco routers and switches

Firewalls, proxy servers and other network devices

Mail routing, SMTP, POP3

Internet products such as:-

SharePoint-based learning platform

Web site hosting (Linux and Windows)

Content filtering

Web conferencing
