The Business Specific brief
Design groups in Skype are assigned to specific product release vehicles to facilitate more rapid product delivery. Reporting to the UX M! anager for Mobile, this Senior Visual Designer will be expecte! d to manage a team of designers that work on multiple mobile products or release vehicles (RVs). The Senior Visual Designer will be involved in budgeting, hiring and recruiting, and facilitating the day-to-day operation of the team.
On a day to day basis this means:
+ Setting the strategic design direction for the team.
+ Helping design the product experience by creating design concepts, developing user stories, mapping user journeys, and making low-to-medium-fidelity mocks.
+ Proactively communicate with all key stakeholders, including the design director, design leads, product managers, and engineering leads about design plans and design decisions; + Leading design from concept through review to execution.
+ Monitoring and promoting the design process in the context of agile product development; participate in planning with product owners, do backlog grooming, and ensure designers are integrated fully with their product teams! .
+ Tracking and resolving impediments that arise for your team.
+ Ensuring that the work of the team is high quality, aligned with the strategy and requirements of the product team, and delivered to agreed timelines.
+ Structuring, maintaining and delivering interaction design consistency across all our software design efforts.
+ Acting as a key advisor to product owners, the design director, and to senior leadership on issues related to customer experience.
+ Interact as needed with design services such as editorial, research, and prototyping.
+ Build and support a design team
+ Recruit and hire into your team as needed.
+ Directly supervise the designers on your team (interaction designers and visual designers, perhaps others), and communicate roles and responsibilities clearly.
+ Mentor, set goals for, and evaluate your team as individual contributors.
+ Proactively identify resour! ce constraints/problems, identifying solutions and escalating issues wh! ere necessary.

+ Able to interpret business requirements, technical limitations, and product strategy and translate them into elegant designs.
+ Solid experience applying a user-centered design processes.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with people at all levels.
+ Aware of trends in design and new technologies.
+ Fluent with usual tools of the trade
Ideally you would also have:
+ Experience with scrum or other Agile frameworks.
+ Prior work designing mobile communications products or applications (telephony, calling, video chat or messaging such as IM, email, and social networks).
