We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate interested in Computer S! cience to work on an Inter-Faculty project between Departments of Medicine and Computing at Imperial College. The project is a novel and exciting venture to develop and validate a method that promises to improve current stroke therapy. Preliminary work by our two departments has shown that a support vector machine algorithm, applied to early CT brain images in stroke, can predict a good/bad outcome for patients receiving thrombolysis (the principle therapy for stroke patients). The intention of this project is to enhance the predictive algorithm, and to test this on independent data sets, using a sample of approximately 1000 cases from several main stroke treatment centres in London. The position will entail image pre-processing; optimizing an existing in-house algorithm; exploring alternative strategies, and validation.
You should have a PhD in computing science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience. You should also be familiar with medical/bra! in image-processing, and machine learning techniques. Knowledg! e of MATLAB would be preferable.
